Brenda Xu • Promise the Moon • Karyn Ann • $5

After releasing a debut EP and a full-length record in San Diego to numerous accolades (including reviews in Performer Magazine and a nomination from the San Diego Music Awards), ambient-folk artist, Brenda Xu (pronounced “shoo”) re-located to Seattle where she released her third album "For The Winter" in 2014. Her ethereal voice has been compared to artists such as Cat Power, Daughter, and Aimee Mann

Known for their intricate melodies and a passion for avoiding the traditional boundaries of genres, Promise the Moon is simultaneously the sensitive and powerful pairing of Portland-based songwriters Brance Pearson and Maggie Gibson. This duo's collaborative original songs upon a foundation of folk and roots rock traditions are infused with a rich variety of musical influences from a life-long relationship with music. The resulting effect is something they affectionately call "heart beat folk," a collection of songs that tell a story, lyrics and performances straight from the heart, and surprisingly playful rhythms that pay tribute to blues, rock, and pop classics.

Brance's accomplished guitar-playing (bred from a unique background of Celtic fingerstyle training followed by years of playing in punk bands) and Maggie's classically-trained violin and highly refined vocal stylings make for an intriguing and eclectic combination of talents reminiscent of the likes of Nickel Creek, Allison Krauss & Union Station, and Mumford & Sons melded into one band. With an ever-changing line-up of acoustic instruments, a genuine love of their craft, and just the right amount of percussion, these two songwriters consistently deliver impressive energy and mastery; their live performances are not to be missed!

Karyn Patridge is a singer/songwriter from Portland, Oregon. Originally from Oswego, NY, Karyn has migrated her beautiful voice and guitar picking sensibilities to the cafes and bars of the northwest. Karyn blends folk, blues, and soul into a concoction synthesized by her own introspection. Her passion is raw and authentic, such that the listener gains personal insight into the artist.
