Ezra Bell is...
....an eight-headed, 16-armed amorphous folk monsterjuggling instruments your grandfather knows and playing original tunes that are modern yet as familiar as the ghosts in a 100-year-old mansion. Heralding from Portland, OR, Ezra Bell produced the debut EP, “Don’t All Look Up At Once,” in December of 2013. You’ll find the band busking on streets, in parks, and along the waterfront of Portland in addition to playing gigs throughout the Northwest. Ezra Bell will bring a guitar, trumpet, upright bass, accordion, violin, mandolin, piano, banjo, cello, and some type of stationary squeezebox with keys to the studio to record a full LP in the fall. This September Ezra Bell will hit the road for a West Coast tour through Oregon, California, Nevada, Utah, and Idaho.
Shaped by the lonely wanderings of a lovers heart and the sorrow of a troubled soul, Stubborn Son is the realization that the farther we run from home, the stronger our bond with the past grows. The reminder that no pain is too great for the dreams we hold dear. We are no more a product of our future as we are of our past. Like a vagabond in the lush forests of Cascadia, our souls yearn for a sense of belonging between where we have been and where we are going.
With influences from the roots of Americana, Blair Daly’s assertive pulse lays the bedrock for the grit and resolve of Andrew Knapp’s bass. Producing longing riffs over the carefully engineered interplay of the rhythm section, Garrett Lamp beckons honest melodies that evoke the constant struggle between expectation and desire.
After five years working as an engineer, guitarist/vocalist Garrett Lamp and his wife moved to Seattle, WA in February of 2013. Shortly thereafter, he was introduced to bassist Andrew Knapp and in the winter of 2013 recruited drummer Blair Daly. Knapp and Daly have over 11 years of experience playing together dating back to weekend jazz gigs in high school and numerous college ensembles. Having played in bands and recording projects since his teens, Lamp’s well honed, unique blend of roots, blues and soul opened the door for Knapp and Daly to plug in their heavy stylings, igniting a creative spark. The three combine their individual strengths, bringing the trained musical perspective of the rhythm section and Lamp’s catchy melodies together to create an engaging and memorable experience.
Solo or with the band, Adam is a bohemian caveman. His live performance is all electricity, dust and saliva. A practitioner of lucid dreaming, his elemental dance comes through the dreamtime. New album out soon.
