Orquesta Monte Calvo (Groove Oriented Afro-Latin Dance Music) brings a unique selection of highly danceable music from South America to stages around the Pacific Northwest. Psychedelic Cumbia, Chicha, Samba, Son. Mambo, Zamacueca, and more. Orquesta Monte Calvo explores the music & rhythms from Peru, Colombia, Ecuador, Venezuela, Cuba, Argentina, and Brazil. With a highlight on music that grew out of the late 1960’s, when Andean flute music in Peru and Cumbia rhythms in Colombia were transformed by the discovery of electric guitars, Fender amps, surf music, hammond organs, and psychedelic rock. The Gazette Times says "There’s something sultry, mysterious and hypnotic about the way this music moves..." Blending Spanish vocals with a powerful percussion section, hammond organ, psychedelic guitar, and a funky bass, Orquesta Monte Calvo puts on a powerful show that will make you want to dance.
