Emerging from the wild deserts of Reno, Nevada, Mark Sexton Band is a trio of music renegades known for their viciously executed soul compositions and white-knuckle driving funk. Accompanied by his commanding rhythm section featuring Alexander Korostinsky on bass and Dan Weiss on drums, this band is redefining the sound of modern soul.
Their musical chemistry began forming in grade school, and as young adults their chops defy their age. Eager to hit the road, the band started touring heavily during high school, often lying about their age to play in dingy bars. In 2014 Mark Sexton Band is gaining recognition on the major festival circuit and beyond, with appearances at Railroad Earth’s Hangtown Halloween Ball and Wanderlust Festival in Tahoe. Armed with a new auxiliary horn section and keyboardist, MSB is blowing the gates wide open on the west coast scene and beyond.
“We are always hungry for more and we’re more than ready for the next big thing” Mark states, referring to a recent tour opening for Toubab Krewe. In recent months they’ve also shared the bill with Macy Gray, Charles Bradley, Dumpstaphunk, and their idols are beginning to take notice.
MSB’s 2013 release, Young & Naïve, was mixed by none other than legendary drummer Alan Evans of Soulive. “It sounded great even before I got my hands on it”, explains Alan Evans, “that’s what happens when you get great players playing great songs.” The album was recorded in Los Angeles by Emmy Award winning engineer Larold Rebhun whose resume alone is like reading a 'who's who' list in Hollywood.
Tipping their hats to the days of Tower of Power and Stevie Wonder, Mark Sexton Band is forging the path for a new generation of funk and soul.
