Trio Subtonic w/ D'Vonne Lewis • Barra Brown Quintet • $8

Trio Subtonic will be joined by the incredible Seattle drummer D'Vonne Lewis. (Skerik's Bandalabra, Mctuff, Industrial Revelation)  Although TS has played with D'Vonne many times in Seattle this will be the first Portland show with this line up.  Trio Subtonic has developed a style of original music that is defined by its compositional intrigue, groove heavy improvisations and its accessibility to listeners across the musical landscape. Choosing not to be boxed into any traditional genres, Trio Subtonic continues its musical exploration with the release of Night Runners which delves into an uncompromising, darker and experimental soundscape that pushes the boundaries of their instrumentation.

A truly eclectic musician, Barra Brown studied classical flute performance at Lewis & Clark College where he graduated with honors while studying drums on the side through the prestigious Alan Jones Academy of Music (AJAM). Barra has also toured the continental United States and Alaska with indie-folk group “Alameda,” and released one record with “The Wishermen,” a collective of young jazz heavyweights dedicated to exploring genre boundaries and creating a new amalgam of many styles and influences. He is now a PJCE and Cavity Search Records recording artist and has released his debut album as a leader “Songs for a Young Heart”, with a debut album on Cavity Search Records to be release on Dec. 9th, 2014. Barra has worked recently with Michael Curry, PNCA, Alan Jones, Radiation City, and Raymond Byron (Ray Raposa), Ages and Ages, and the Shook Twins.
